Dear Donors and Supporters of The Polis Project,
I am writing to express my deepest thanks for your continued support of The Polis Project. Over the past six years, your generosity has been the cornerstone of our work, enabling us to document state violence, authoritarianism, and the ongoing global human rights crises. This year, we reached a significant milestone—our first institutional grant—which has allowed us to strengthen our foundations and build a newsroom dedicated to amplifying marginalized voices and documenting under-reported stories
Today, I am grateful to you and ask for your continued commitment. In addition to institutional funding, we want to remain deeply rooted in our community. That’s why we’re launching the “A Thousand Strong for The Polis Project” campaign.
Our goal is to have 1,000 supporters pledge just $10 a month.
This would provide $10,000 in monthly support, allowing us to continue commissioning writers from South Asia and beyond, giving them a platform to document the realities they face.
We’ve recently hired brilliant editors, writers, reporters, and researchers to document critical issues in South Asia and Globally. Additionally, we are launching a new culture vertical, led by Bhakti Shringarpure and Madhuri Shastri, that will allow us to commission more writers to critically engage with the world we live in.
I encourage you to explore our latest long-form journalism, including an in-depth investigation into the Indian Army’s violations against the Van Gujjars community in Uttarakhand. Our Demolitions Project, Disappearance Project, and other recent investigations continue to highlight pressing human rights issues, and your support has made this work possible.
We are back, expanding our public programming out of New York. If you're in the area, I hope you'll join us for New York Film Screening | A Lover's War: A Trilogy of Turmoil by Cannes prize-winning Indian documentary filmmakers Shirley Abraham and Amit Madheshiya followed by a lineup of other exciting conversations and public gatherings over the fall.
Your support is crucial to sustaining our long-form journalism, in-depth research, and new culture vertical. Please consider extending your contribution by pledging monthly. You can also double your impact by arranging an employer donation match, contributing via a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF), or, if you’re over 70, through your IRA. We have compiled a quick video summarising various other ways you can support us.
Together, we can continue to shed light on the world’s most pressing issues and provide a platform for critical voices. Below are links to the various ways you can support The Polis Project.
Thank you again for standing with us, and as always, do take good care of yourselves.
In love, solidarity, and respect.
